One-bite program
Q: What is the One-bite program?
A:
The One-bite program allows an eligible individual who is impaired due to substance use disorder to avoid formal disciplinary action by the board. Under Ohio Revised Code 4731.251 and 4731.252, the One-bite program establishes confidential monitoring and treatment for eligible practitioners.
Q: Does the One-bite program include mental or physical conditions?

Eligibility for the One-bite program is determined by the monitoring organization and the board-approved One-bite treatment providers.

Q: How long does board approval last?
A:
Currently, board approval is for a period of three years. An application for approval needs to be submitted to renew Board approval.
Under the Ohio Administrative Code 4731-16-09(D), a treatment provider approved by the State Medical Board of Ohio must notify the board of:
any changes to the transfer of ownership of the program;
change in location or locations of the program; or
change of directorship prior to the changes becoming effective.
