The State Medical Board of Ohio recognizes and celebrates physicians on National Doctors' Day 2017.

In 1990, legislation was introduced in the House and Senate to establish a national Doctors' Day. Following overwhelming approval by the United States Senate and the House of Representatives, on October 30, 1990, President George H. W. Bush designated March 30th as "National Doctors' Day.
March 30th was selected because it is the anniversary of the first use of general anesthesia in surgery.
