State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy Mistakenly Sends OARRS Email

Please be advised that the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy sent out emails this morning to approximately 7,000 prescribers indicating failure to comply with laws requiring the use of the Ohio Automated Rx Reporting System (OARRS).

The emails were erroneously distributed without the knowledge of the State Medical Board of Ohio, Ohio Board of Nursing or the Ohio State Dental Board and may contain inaccurate information. If you received this morning’s email, please disregard it. You do not need to take any further action at this time. The Pharmacy Board apologizes for this mistake and any concerns it may have caused.

HealthScene Ohio - Fall 2017 Issue Available

HealthScene Ohio, the Medical Board’s quarterly magazine, is now available. The fall 2017 issue features articles showing how Ohio is combating the opioid epidemic, obtaining better health with diabetes, the many forms of Oriental Medicine, vaccinations for adults, a clinic dedicated to migrant workers, aging gracefully with geriatric medicine, medical response during disasters, addressing heart failure, improving health literacy, developing more effective treatments for MS and preventing misdiagnosis in emergency medicine.

 

Cosmetic Therapy Exam Set for December 18

The date of the next Cosmetic Therapy exam is Monday, December 18, 2017. The application must be submitted before 5 p.m. on Monday, December 4, 2017. Click here for information and to submit an application.

Office Closure in Observance of Veterans Day

The Medical Board's office will be closed tomorrow, November 10th, in honor of Veterans Day. The office will reopen on Monday at 8 a.m.

Take Charge Ohio Campaign Launches

We’ve developed and launched the public awareness campaign, “Take Charge Ohio: Manage Pain, Prevent Medication Abuse” with the Ohio Department of Health and several other state licensing boards and agencies. The campaign is aimed at our prescribers, their patients and the general public. The campaign offers our prescribers various resources they can use to properly educate their patients on the safe and responsible use of pain medication and pain management treatment. Prescribing for Acute Pain - FAQs Available

On August 31, 2017 new rules became effective for prescriptions written for the treatment of acute pain. The State Medical Board of Ohio has compiled a collection of the most frequently asked questions. Guidance based upon those inquiries are now available on the Prescriber Resources page. Board Seeks Comments Regarding Proposed Physician CME Rules

Public comment is being sought on the following proposed Medical Board rules filed with the Common Sense Initiative Office. The Business Impact Analysis and the proposed rules can be found by clicking on the links below.

Comments on any of the rules should be submitted no later than October 16, 2017 to both the Medical Board (Sallie.Debolt@med.ohio.gov) And the Common Sense Initiative Office (csipubliccomments@governor.ohio.gov).

Physician CME Rules
Proposed amendments permit physicians to earn up to 33 hours of Category 2 CME credit per renewal cycle for providing volunteer health services to indigent or uninsured patients and the documentation requirements needed to claim this credit.

4731-10-02 Requisite hours of continuing medical education for license renewal or reinstatement
4731-10-08 Evidence of continuing medical education.
4731-10-09 Continuing medical education requirement for mid-term licensees.
4731-10-10 Continuing medical education requirements following licensure restoration.
